THE LORD’S PRAYER: THY KINGDOM COME
Basic Scripture: Matthew 6:10-11
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
Welcome to today’s Hour of Restoration with God the King and Provider. In our previous lesson, we understood the reasons behind Jesus’ teaching on prayer to His disciples, which includes us. In His teaching, an aspect He drew our attention to is the Kingdom of God. Throughout the ministry of Jesus on earth, He was always preaching and teaching on the Kingdom of God. In Matthew 4:17b it reads that “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand”. This shows the importance of the coming of the Kingdom of God. The coming of the Kingdom of God is the establishment of God’s government on earth. God’s intent from the foundation of the earth was to portray His image and His government on earth as it is in heaven. God wants man to rule the earth under His governmental ways. Through that, there will be peace and sanity on earth, as it is in heaven.
This means that the only way we can get all we desire and have peace and our joy fulfilled is by the coming of the Kingdom of God. When we pray for the Kingdom to come, it means we ask of God to teach us to live on this earth as He does in heaven. God knows what we want and He knows that we can get all of them only if we live according to the ways of God’s Kingdom and government. Praying for the Kingdom of God also means promoting the interest of God over that of self. The Scriptures tell us how we should seek the Kingdom of God first and all other things shall be added unto us.
Another aspect of the manner of prayer is, “Give us this day our daily bread”. After seeking the interest of God first, we then can ask for what we want our Father and Lord to do for us. Remember God knows what you want so it makes it easy for the Spirit of God to direct you as you make your requests. Another interesting thing to know and understand is that God does not make His benevolence monthly but daily. Hallelujah! It means you can continually bring your requests to Him without worrying about the time or where you are or whom you are with. God is always ready for the requests of His children who have prioritized His Kingdom before their needs. Be a child of God who puts the things of God first before your needs in prayer and all things shall indeed be added to you. Let us always remember the relevance of this section of the pattern of God’s prayer and use it as expected of us for through that can we command exploits on this earth and in our lives. Pray now.
1. Take a song of worship and pray as led by the Holy Spirit
2. Father, in the name of Jesus, may Your kingdom and government be established on earth.
3. Pray now over your requests for the day and beyond.
